Ice maintenance
As you probably already know the top layer of the ice must be cleaned regularly. It is usually done with an ice resurfacer.
You have the choice between:
A self-propelled ice resurfacer
Advantage:
cheaper to purchase than a self propelled ice resurfacer.
Disadvantage:
weight about 4500 kg, high purchase price.
An ice resurfacer without towing vehicle
You will need a tractor with a three-point hitch in the back,
1000 kg lifting force and a hydraulic pump with
10 – 16 liters per minute.
Advantage:
compact measurements | little service necessary |
low rental costs | weight with tractor about 2,500 kg.
Disadvantage:
you will need a tractor
A small tractor with a snow shovel
in the front or in the back
Advantage:
very economic
Disadvantage:
can only shovel away the snow but not shave off the ice
Four hard-working boys, that clean the ice surface manually every two hours
Advantage:
no machines necessary.
Disadvantage:
the cleaning of the ice takes a long time and the ice cannot be shaved off and applied newly.

Where to put the ice leftovers (snow)?
Depending on the size of your ice rink there will be a daily amount of snow. It could be up to two cubic meters. Usually the snow is cleaned off the ice every 2 to 3 hours. Now you can simply let the snow melt away or have it taken away.
